The History of Andy's Ride
Andy's Ride 2007
The first annual event was held July 7th, 2007 (07-07-07). The participants gathered at Salem United Methodist Church on Kissel Road, Zionsville, Indiana on a beautiful sunny Saturday morning. Reverend Wayne Patton initiated the event with a blessing and off we went on a 80 mile ride through Boone County countryside. There were designated stops in Sheridan, Thorntown, Jamestown, Whitestown and back at Salem Church for door prize drawings, music, fantastic lunch with homemade side dishes and desserts and fellowship at the Church parking lot.
Our first event collected enough funds to cover our expenses and provide scholarship money in the amount of $2,000. These proceeds were divided into two $1,000 scholarships to be awarded in May 2008 to students attending a trade school this year. We also were able to donate $840.00 to Salem United Methodist Church.
Andy's Ride 2008
Our second annual ride was held July 12th 2008. We gathered at Zionsville American Legion post and IT RAINED, and RAINED. We held the luncheon and door prize events anyway inside. Three riders braved the elements and rode the mapped route. Other riders decided to ride on Sunday when we had 48 riders and beautiful sunshine day. Hamburgers and side dishes were served outside under the shelter at the Legion. All in all, the weekend was a great success and huge fun was had by all in attendance. We are all looking forward to the "2009" ride again this year in July from the American Legion Post again in Zionsville.
Andy's Ride 2009
The third annual ride held at the Zionsville American Legion started with a sunny Saturday morning, changing at ride time to clouds and rain showers. We did have a good turnout and proceeded with the lunch, raffle and band. Sunday we had about 45 riders show up to ride and we later had lunch and a great time. We collected donations enough to cover all our expenses and make scholarships available to two students seeking technical school training.
Andy's Ride 2010
The 2010 Andy’s Ride event was held on a perfectly sunny, Indiana summer day. We branched out, including a Car and Truck Show. The registration for the bike ride lasted until 10 AM and was followed by a blessing of the ride from our Pastor, Reverend Miller. The bikes took off on time riding to Atlanta, Indiana where our first rest stop was hosted by Ed Wright and his associates. Ed owns several buildings in Atlanta and invited our riders to stop at his Victorian showcase home to enjoy refreshments on the veranda surrounded by the beautiful garden area.
The Car and Truck Show had 28 entries and after the votes were tallied awards were given to the winners by Robin and Jessie Buckmaster. Dash plaques were also passed out to all participants of the Car and Truck show. Jim and Joyce Cunningham hosted the Car and Truck Show. Lunch was provided to attendees and riders returning from the ride. Kelsey Klingler announced the raffle winners and many more volunteers helped make this year a huge success for Andy’s Ride 2010. Thank you to all the volunteers and riders from the 2010 Andy’s Ride, I look forward to seeing you all again at the 2011 Andy’s Ride!
